Published by Upscale Learning & Development Ltd on , 3 min read

Match your role to the right health and safety course, from workplace safety for new starters to safety supervisor, risk assessment and HSE for project teams.

Health, safety and environment (HSE) training in Nigeria ranges from introductory safety awareness to courses for supervisors, managers and project teams. The right course depends on your role, not on how many certificates you already hold. This guide matches common job roles to the course that fits.

New to HSE or changing career

  • Health & Safety in the Workplace: for anyone starting out in safety or joining an industrial workplace. Understand workplace health and safety responsibilities, common hazards and practical preventive measures.
  • Industrial Safety Processes: for operators and technicians on plants and process sites. Manage workplace hazards, apply safe work practices and improve safety performance in industrial operations.

Supervisors and team leads

  • Safety Supervisor: for people who supervise work on site and sign off on safe systems of work. The knowledge and skills to supervise workplace safety, monitor work activities and enforce safe procedures.
  • Health & Safety Risk Assessment: for supervisors and HSE officers who write and review risk assessments. Identify workplace hazards, assess risk and put effective control measures in place.

Managers and project teams

  • Safety Leadership: for managers who set safety culture and targets. Develop the leadership skills to build a strong safety culture and improve safety performance.
  • HSE for Project Management Teams: for project managers and engineers running projects on client sites. Integrate HSE into project planning, execution, monitoring and closeout across the project lifecycle.
  • Construction Health & Safety Management: for construction managers and site engineers. Health and safety requirements for construction activities, site operations, hazard control and site safety management.
  • Environmental, Health & Safety KPIs: for HSE managers who report performance to leadership and clients. Use KPIs to measure, monitor and improve environmental, health and safety performance.

What about NEBOSH, IOSH and ISO 45001?

NEBOSH and IOSH qualifications are awarded by those UK bodies through their own approved centres. Our HSE courses are practical competence courses that end with a certificate of completion, focused on the work you do on Nigerian sites. If your goal is to audit safety management systems, take the ISO 45001 Lead Auditor course instead.

Fees and duration

Each HSE course runs for five days and costs ₦200,000 per participant. Classes run in Port Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja and live online, and companies can book private cohorts for their sites. See every date on the health and safety courses page.
